Livestock farmer - cattle farming (Landgenossenschaft Oppurg e.G.)

Landgenossenschaft Oppurg eG is an agricultural company in Thuringia based in Oppurg. The most important branches of the business are grain, oilseed crops, fodder cultivation and seed propagation, as well as dairy cattle farming, calf and pig fattening.

For the start of training in 2026, we are offering motivated young people training as an animal farmer - cattle farming.

Animal farmers specialising in cattle farming keep and care for breeding, dairy and beef cattle. In the dairy cattle sector, they are responsible for feeding, mucking out, milking, driving and animal care. It is particularly important to monitor the health, performance and fertility of dairy and dry cows. They also care for sick animals and look after calving cows, monitor the birth, look after the mother and calf and raise the calves in the first few weeks of their lives.
In the calf fattening area, young animals are cared for and raised up to the age of eight months. The focus here is on feeding, manure removal, optimum housing conditions and the health of the animals in order to achieve good fattening results. The activities of an animal farmer often involve the use of vehicles, machines and equipment that need to be operated, monitored and maintained.

The three-year dual training programme takes place at the Oppurg agricultural cooperative and at the vocational school in Schwerstedt near Weimar.

A work placement before starting the training programme would be desirable in order to get to know the job description and the company.
