Gardener - gardening and landscaping (Schöppler GmbH Gardening and landscaping)
Offer description
The three-year training programme to become a landscape gardener takes place on two levels: At our company in Meßkirch, where as a prospective landscape gardener you will learn everything you need for your day-to-day work, and at the vocational college in Göppingen for theoretical lessons. Tailored to your everyday working life, you will learn everything you need to know in your profession and be able to apply immediately, for example plant science, technology or maths.
In addition, there are inter-company training courses where you can continue your education as a trainee, for example in handling chainsaws or processing natural stone.
Once you have completed your training, landscape gardeners have many opportunities to climb the career ladder. As a trained landscape gardener, you can work in operational practice, for example as a foreman or construction site manager. After a few years of professional experience, you can also do further training to become a master craftsman or technician. There is also the option of studying for a bachelor's or master's degree in landscape architecture or landscaping.
Your tasks
The tasks in gardening and landscaping are varied and diverse. Every construction site is unique and consists of repetitive building blocks that you are able to work through step by step. Among other things, you will learn...

- Provide materials (soil, sand, stones, plants, ...) and machines
...how earthworks and irrigation and drainage measures are carried out:
- Model soils, i.e. create hills or embankments according to a plan, for example. E.g. creating hills or adapting slopes. This is particularly necessary for outdoor facilities such as playgrounds or parks.
- Laying drainage pipes, but also installing surface inlets, inspection and soakaways.
- Installing irrigation systems. These are particularly needed for sports facilities or for greening a building.
...how to create paved surfaces:
- Paths and squares are usually paved.
- Water- or bitumen-bound surfaces (asphalt)
- Protection, sealing, base and drainage layers (these drain away excess water or store it to a certain extent. Drainage layers are important for green roofs, for example.
...how to design the outdoor areas of buildings:
These include:
- Walls and steps
- Ponds, basins and watercourses
- Fences, gazebos, trellises, noise barriers, pergolas, sports and play equipment
- It's amazing how many other things a garden or park can offer - apart from shrubs and trees, isn't it?
...how plants are named, planted and cared for
