Research Associate (f/m/d)

Institute for Breeding Research on Agricultural Crops - Location Groß Lüsewitz

Your tasks

- Conducting scientific research in the field of oat genetics and pathology, in particular:
- Fine mapping of a QTL for anther retention
- Cloning and functional characterisation of a powdery mildew resistance gene
- Genome sequencing , assembly and characterisation of the oat blight fungus Ustilago avenae
- Analysis, interpretation and publication of research results in international journals
- Planning, preparation and writing of presentations to communicate scientific findings.

You have

- completed a scientific university degree (at least a Master's degree, university diploma or comparable degree) in agricultural sciences, biology or a comparable discipline, preferably with a doctorate;
- very good theoretical and practical knowledge of current methods in genetics, preferably on oats, documented by publications in renowned scientific journals;
- practical experience in the handling of smut fungi;
- experience in the supervision of theses is an advantage;
- very good communication and organisational skills;
- reliable and independent working style, ability to work in a team and willingness to cooperate, commitment and initiative as well as enthusiasm for scientific work are required;
- very good written and spoken English skills.

We offer

- part-time employment limited until 30 April 2031; from 1 June 2026 to 30 April 2028 with 13.65 hours per week and from 1 May 2028 to 30 April 2031 with 19.5 hours per week for a limited duration. The employment relationship is based on the collective agreement for the public service east (TVöD-Ost).
- remuneration according to pay group E 13 TVöD.
- entry at the earliest possible date.
