Job description
The Agricultural Centre for Cattle Husbandry, Grassland Management, Dairy Farming, Game and Fisheries Baden-Württemberg (LAZBW) is seeking to fill the position

of Head of Department 2 "Management, Cattle Breeding, Husbandry Systems"

in conjunction with the Head of Unit 21

"Cattle Breeding, Performance Testing, Cattle Fattening" (f/m/d)

with a civil servant or an employee of the higher agricultural service on a permanent basis at the Aulendorf site as soon as possible.

The LAZBW is an institution within the portfolio of the Ministry of Food, Rural Areas and Consumer Protection Baden-Württemberg. The organisation works on a wide range of tasks from applied research to the transfer of knowledge into practice and cooperates with various institutions in Germany and abroad. Among other things, an agricultural teaching and experimental farm is maintained at the Aulendorf site, which forms an important basis for the diverse range of services in the field of knowledge transfer as well as experimental and project work.

A grade A 15 position is available. Promotion to grade A 15 is based, among other things, on the management development concept and requires at least three different assignments at at least two different administrative levels (one of which is the Ministry of Food, Rural Areas and Consumer Protection) of at least twelve months as a rule.

The position can be filled both as a civil servant and as an employee. In the case of a permanent new appointment as a civil servant, remuneration will be paid in pay group 15 TV-L if all collective bargaining and personal requirements are met. If applicants who are not civil servants fulfil the requirements under career law, they will be taken on as civil servants.

In addition to the management of Department 2 "Management, Cattle Breeding, Husbandry Systems", which currently has 30 employees plus students and trainees, the department also organises and manages the work of the Department 2 "Management, Cattle Breeding, Husbandry Systems". In addition to the management of Department 2 "Management, Cattle Breeding, Husbandry Systems" with currently 30 employees plus students and trainees, organised in 3 specialist units, and the management of Unit 21 "Cattle Breeding, Performance Testing, Cattle Fattening", the main areas of responsibility include:

- coordinating the evaluation of the offspring of daughters of the test bulls; managing the cattle breeding consultants, including control and quality management, including collaboration on projects Collaboration in projects - Development and implementation of the progeny description for endangered cattle breeds
- Participation in professional training, further education and training (knowledge transfer) incl. teaching as part of the DHBW agricultural economics degree programme, public relations work and the preparation of specialist information in the specialist area of responsibility
- dealing with the area of cattle fattening (feeding) including marketing issues and experimental approaches
- dealing with the area of beef cattle breeding together with the responsible breeding management
- the breeding support of the LABZW dairy cow herd, among other things in collaboration with the herd manager
- Coordinating the training of the in-house dual students in agricultural economics at the DHBW Ravensburg
- Working on future agricultural topics such as organic farming, adaptation to climate change, resource efficiency in relation to dairy and beef cattle breeding and beef cattle husbandry
- Participating in specialist committees at state and national level (e.g. for the further development of offspring breeding).
- advising the ministry and the specialist authorities of the state

Your profile:

- You have a university degree (Dipl. Uni) or a comparable degree as a Master Sc. in agricultural sciences or other degree programmes that qualify you for this area of responsibility
- You have several years of experience in personnel management
- You have in-depth knowledge and experience in cattle farming and breeding
- You are committed, sociable and enjoy working with people
- You have excellent communication skills, presentation or teaching experience and enjoy imparting knowledge
- You have strategic thinking skills, are decisive, resilient and have above-average commitment
- You are willing to work on topics independently, in a team and in working groups in a goal-oriented manner
- You are willing to occasionally work outside and on weekends
- You have very good written and spoken German skills (C1 level)
- You have a valid class B driving licence

Furthermore, you should have a high degree of initiative and self-organisation. A confident demeanour and assertiveness as well as communication and teamwork skills are required.
