Job description
of an engineer (m/f/d)
(Dipl.-Ing. FH or Bachelor of Science/Engineering)
in the fields of agricultural or environmental sciences, water management, geology, geography or comparable degrees
to be filled for an indefinite period.
The position is graded according to pay group 11 TV-L.
The NLWKN is a specialised authority and service provider of the state administration and performs tasks in water management, coastal protection, nature conservation and radiation protection. The NLWKN is based in Norden (Directorate) and currently maintains 11 operating centres at 14 locations as well as facilities and depots at other locations with a total of around 1,500 employees.
The NLWKN also advises, promotes and controls regional drinking water protection cooperations as part of the "Lower Saxony Cooperation Model". This involves protecting groundwater and drinking water from inputs, particularly from agriculture, in cooperation with land managers (farmers) and water supply companies. In this context, the focus is particularly on nitrate and pesticide inputs into the groundwater.
The "Water Management and Radiation Protection" division is responsible for the operation of groundwater quality and level measuring points as part of the "Gewässerkundlicher Landesdienst" (GLD) in accordance with Section 29 NWG. The data collected, which forms the basis for various water management tasks and issues, must be checked for plausibility, among other things.
The GLD must be involved in all planning, decisions and other measures if significant effects on the water balance are to be expected. The GLD advises on participations and issues statements.

Tasks in the workplace
- support, advice and controlling of cooperations in drinking water extraction areas in accordance with § 28 para. § 28 Abs. 4 NWG
- Preparation, conclusion and controlling of "drinking water protection contracts" with water supply companies
- Advice and examination of applications in connection with the promotion of water protection advice
- Coordination of statements in the State Water Research Service (GLD) pursuant to § 29 para. 3 NWG and participation of public authorities (TÖB) pursuant to § 4 BauGB at the Braunschweig site
- Drafting of statements acc. § 29 NWG within the framework of the GLD for the groundwater quality area
- Plausibility check and evaluation of groundwater quality data and publication of reports
Requirement profile of the applicant
- A degree in agricultural or environmental sciences, civil engineering with a focus on water management or a comparable degree in a corresponding natural science course with the knowledge and experience required to fulfil the tasks and at least a DiplIng. FH or Bachelor's degree
- good expertise in the areas of groundwater quality and agriculture
- good knowledge and experience in handling groundwater data
- confident handling of common MS Office products
- basic knowledge of ArcGIS
- good verbal and written expression and an addressee-orientated or comprehensible communication skills
- very good knowledge of German at native speaker level
- a high degree of independent and self-reliant work and initiative, Willingness to cooperate and work under pressure
- an open-minded and communicative personality with a high ability to work in a team
- possession of a class B driving licence and willingness to drive a company car
- willingness to work in the field
- good knowledge and experience in dealing with groundwater data and in the specialist software Aqua Info would be desirable
The job is generally suitable for part-time work, provided that proper (full-time) performance of duties is ensured through job sharing.
